The ACCA Temple (Shrine) Sauerkrauts German Band was formed in 1976 by Philip Johnson, then Potentate of ACCA Temple, with the assistance of a fellow ACCA Band clarinet player, Robert Ashworth. It was subsequently led by Dr. Marion (Mike) Rice, who served as President until 2007 when current Director, John Stenstrom, assumed the reins.

Initially formed in 1977 entirely of members of the ACCA Temple “Million Dollar” Band, with declining membership the all-volunteer group is now assisted by guest musicians from the community. They play to raise funds for the 22 Shriner’s Hospitals where children are treated for orthopedic and burn conditions with no financial responsibility to the family. All net proceeds collected by the Band go either directly to the Shriner’s Hospital Foundation or into the Transportation Fund which is used to get the children and their families to and from the Hospitals. They keep no money for themselves personally, only enough for costumes, music and administrative expenses.

They have performed at the Richmond Oktoberfest for many years and perform annually for Capital Ale House, the Virginia Masonic Home and many other extended care facilities around the area. They also may be seen each year in the “Sounds of ACCA” and “Million Dollar Band Showcase” performances.

They are also available for private parties, conventions, and similar events desiring “happy” music. They perform genuine Bavarian music in authentic costumes, sure to bring sparkle to any occasion.
